CAGD 117 - Concept Design and Storyboarding

Assignment 7 -

Assignment #6 - Backgrounds

Date: N/A

This assignment we drew 3-4 sceneries/landscapes all within the same 'surrounding'. Each image should stay in theme of choice which I did snowy mountains. Although 1 of my imaages doesn't fit the theme, I still liked it. After we sketched those, we were to add more detail to your favorite which was the misty/snowy mountains. To expand on this sketch, I added hiker trails, flags, and distant birds.

Assignment #5 - Shading and Texturing

Date: N/A

Just like every art related course, we were given shapes which we had to shade. A slightly different step we did, we because it's digital we experimented with pen pressure and different pen textures/styles.
That was only part 1, for part 2 we were recommended to look at Pinterest pictures of objects as spheres, specifically searched '3D spheres'. The basic requirement was to sketch in black and white but for the texturing, I wanted to experiment with color. I really liked the look of ice cream scoop, cocoanut, and cobblestone which I ended up drawing. I wasn't expecting to look good, but I really loved to outcome, the cocoanut being my favorite.

Assignment #4 - Sentient Objects

Date: N/A

This assignment had us pick a few objects around us and give it life, then make a matching or pair version of it. I gave them different emotions to show different ways to interpret positioning. I don't remember too much of this assignment as I write about it, but it's to give emotions/personality to inanimate objects. My objects included pencils, a pepsi can, and a tissue box

Assignment #3 - Character Study

Date: N/A

We were assigned to pick 5 characters, and break them down into basic shapes like circles, squares and triangles. Usually circles are related to kind or a light hearted characteristics. Squares are related to more toughness in either physically or emotionally. Triangles are related to stubbornness or a mixture/clash of both kindness and toughness.

Assignment #2 - Emotions

Date: N/A

An assignment we did was to create basic 'beans', that showed emotion and body language. Body language, facial features, and objects are used to imply certain emotions. Referencing anime related arts, they use symbols like sweat mark lines, exclamation marks/punctuation and exaggerated faces to define and enhance emotions.

 Assignment #1 - Sketching

Date: N/A

For the next 15ish weeks, we would be doing 30 minute sketches. Using the cite 'Line of action.com', we were assigned to do a 30minute class mode. This came to a total of 18 drawings broken down into 10 30second, 5 1minute, 2 5minutes, and 1 10minute. We could pick any subject which I chose to switch up every couple weeks, like 2-3 weeks I would do women figure drawings then next week do animals, specifically birds or felines.

These short 30minute sketches really helped me get into the 'art mood', because it feels so hard to approach art and breaking down shapes. These weekly drawing helped me discover my interest  in drawing birds and aquatic animals.
